No No No - Juggernaut 1967. The very first time that anyone thought to use a walking bass in a rock tune, way before Moondance. OK, I stand corrected. All My Loving by The Beatles was the first, but it sure wasn't as soulful as this! No high-falsetto jazz scatting, no Bb minor seventh-augmented-fifth chords, no do-wop backup singing.
Electrolux / Who Is The Man? - Juggernaut A strange scat-sung dream with Impressionistic chords segues into a hard rocker in tribute to both I'm a Man and a neighborhood cop.
Are You Doing The Best You Can? -Juggernaut A pot smoker's (or is it just a procrastinator's?) lament. Beautiful guitar arpeggios drizzled overit all, served on a bed of angst.
Wouldn't It Be Funny - Juggernaut "Wouldn't it be funny if we all went someplace and didn't know where we've been!" Yes it was, in this classic Juggernaut extravaganza, live at The Trolley, Seattle.
Just Think - The Stars The Stars were just Dan on organ and brother Tim Bonow on drums on a radio broadcast. An early protest song, recorded in 1973. Dan's killer left-hand-bass on display for the first time ever.
Stone's Throw Away - The Stars Bad relationships make for great music? Chilling chorus.
You've Got To Grab (Ahold of Yourself) - The Stars Well, you really should, you know.
Propeller - Rotor Pop song with delightful chords, catchy melody.
Gotcho Call - Vizzion Hard rocker with exciting changes. Shows off Dan's singing.
November Child - Vizzion Out on the road, missing your Scorpio family. Heartwarming, tearjerking.
My Daddy Told Me - Vizzion Exciting, live piece of familial advice.
Walk Around The Block - Vizzion Moving to a more modern era here, we hear some stunning vocal harmonies and rhythms.
Let's Move - solo project, synths and organ A long and haunting dance piece, humming along with the organ part. Listen to this twice and you'll never get it out of your head, ever.
Timepiece - solo project, synths and organ A pensive meditation on the inexorable passage of time. Various wacky clocks added by some idiot producer named Organfreak.
Runnin' Wild - solo Synclavier The awesome, stupendous, funky magic of the Synclavier. This tune is, as we say down at the studio, one grinder!
As The Crow Flies - solo Synclavier Pensive and moving lament on nature's ways, alternated with disgustingly funky dance sections.
Afghanistan - solo project, synths Mood piece. Crossing the desert or was it dessert?
Flip (World Mix) - solo project, Sonar One of Dan and Organfreak's first forays into the world of computer production, the intent was to capture some of the flavor of a slightly demented African street band.
97 Tears - ? and The Day (organ and synths) Featuring the mighty Hammond XK-3, this takes off from where The Mysterians should have left off. The full version really gets to some heartbreak or is it obsession?
World Peace - Dan Bonow and The Day Flippant ode to world peace, played extemporaneously live, with rhythm king Dennis Blackmon performing with two fingers on a drum machine! Check out the girl's and the guy's part.
Poppies - solo synth/sequencer project Originally recorded as a backing track for an ad, this is a stoned dream.
The Cell Phone Song (Leave Me One Message) - Unco Funki This was made up on the spot on the bandstand, and yet it is one of the wittiest things Dan's done. Girlfriend calls him on the gig, he sees who it is but doesn't answer. The melody that begins is the actual ring tone and the song flows out of it. Dan holds the phone to his mouth and sings through it. Hilarious.
Back In The Daze - Unco Funki More off-the-cuff improvisation at Dan's high school reunion. Included for the schoolboy "humor."
